At least 20 people experiencing homelessness die every single day in America. They die in cars, tents, shelters, and in the streets.

Almost all of these deaths are preventable.

We believe that homeless deaths count. Federal, state, and local governments must do more to track deaths among people experiencing homelessness and must take meaningful steps to reduce homeless deaths.

Homeless Deaths by City and County in 2020

Read more about our methods for constructing these figures.

Only cities and counties with recorded counts are included in these figures. If a city or county is not listed, it does not mean there are no homeless deaths.

We need your help to both continue and expand our counting in 2022 and beyond! You can contribute to this effort by finding or requesting data and submitting it to us.
